Overview: The Basic Summer Color Palette
Let’s continue with the Color Synergy Series.
Today we will be discussing the Light Summer Color Palette
So far we’ve covered the Soft and Cool Summer Woman of Style and today we will be completing the subdomains within the summer color season with that of the Light Summer Woman of Style. If you have not read the articles on the summer color season, I highly suggest backtracking to check out those articles first. So, what are the dominant, physical characteristics of the Light Summer Woman of Style? If you have a suspicion that you might fall within the Light Summer color palette then your eyes are probably one of the first things other people notice about you! In fact, your eyes and light hair (typically blond) are equally light in appearance and your skin tone is quite delicate with cool undertones that at times may appear slightly flushed.
Furthermore, Light Summer Women of Style are typically white and have cool + light blue eyes; however, there are some Light Summers whose eyes present as steely blue grey or hazel grey. It is very rare that women of color, for example black women will fall into the Light Summer season. Perhaps, an African-American albino woman who presents with blue, grey-blue or hazel-grey eyes might fall within the Light Summer color season, it would be a quite a beautiful, yet very rare combination.
Let’s take a look at the Light Summer Woman of Style
Like the Cool and Soft Summer palette, the Light Summer color palette is also a subtle, yet cool palette that leans towards lightness in quality; meaning the colors found within the Light Summer color palette have a value that is quite light. So, if you think about the primary color of blue which is already a cool color and you added the color white to it, you will notice that it’s value (appearance) becomes lighter and more delicate. Similarly, the colors from the Light Summer color palette have the lightest value from the spectrum of colors that fall within the cool summer season. Although your undertone is cool based and you fall within the cool color season, attempting to wear colors, for example, from the Deep or Clear Winter color palette will be too strong and intense on you. However, some Light Summers do flow into the Light Spring color season because of your shared lightness evident in your eyes and hair, as well as Light Summers delicate, sometimes blended (a hint of warmth to your coolness) skin coloring that will allow you to borrow a few balanced colors from the Light Spring color palette.
Let’s take a look at the lovely actress Naomi Watts. Naomi presents as the classic Light Summer Woman of Style, which is evident in her light, grey-blue eyes, delicate rosy-pink skin coloring and blond tresses. Naomi often wears her hair color ranging from golden flax blond to a cool, ash blond which is probably an indicator that she also flows to the Light Spring season as well; but her dominant color palette would be that of the Light Summer color palette.
Another example of a Light Summer Woman of Style is actress and comedian Amy Poehler. Amy also presents as quite delicate in skin quality and she too also has light blue eyes, similar to those of Naomi Watts. It is evident that Amy falls within the Light Summer color palette; however, from time to time she may wear her hair in a rusty-red color that looks great on her too and is also indicative that she may flow to the Light Spring color palette as well.

What are your POWER colors?
Your palettes POWER colors are colors from the Light Summer color palette that radiate against your vibrant natural coloring. POWER colors of the Light Summer color palette convey an energetic vibration that are LIGHT and irridescent, which illuminates the best of who you are in your overall image and personal style, as well as your personal brand. These colors are your palettes GO-TO colors when you want to make a confident, powerful statement; especially in business/corporate environments – more on that later!
What are your ANCHOR colors?
The ANCHOR colors found within the LIGHT summer color palette are considered neutral colors that can be found in your (or should be added to your) wardrobe capsules. Anchor colors ‘anchor’ your wardrobes overall look; for example, if you chose to wear a light navy, 2-piece, pant suit to work or a job interview you can complement this outfit with your POWER colors as an inside blouse, completed with one of your palettes signature, ACCENT colors (coming up next!). Likewise, you can also wear your palettes anchor colors in your handbags, shoes, outdoor fall/winter/sping/summer accessories. Anchor colors are your palettes BEST neutral colors that pull everything together into a fabulous, cohesive personal style.
What are your ACCENT colors?
Lastly, your palettes ACCENT colors are the LIGHT summers most energetic colors that some women who fall within the light summer color palette, may feel are too light for them to wear within their actual wardrobe items. The rule for me and which I share with my clients is the 80/20 rule. This means that I have chosen to wear 80% of my palettes POWER + ANCHOR colors and about 20% of my palettes ACCENT colors only in my accessories, my nail color, and selectively in my makeup colors. For example, one of the accent colors from the clear winter palette is that of Icy Mint and True Red. These colors might be too strong for some women; however, by utilizing the 80\20 rule you can incorporate your palettes accent on your nail polish, as lipgloss/lipstick which adds a pop of sultry color to your normal makeup palette or to your evening accessories. Again, how you choose to wear any of your palettes signature colors are personal to you.
