I can’t believe that it’s officially the holiday season! And if you haven’t noticed yet, we have exactly 35 more days at the date of this post to start getting ourselves prepared for all the festive dinner soirees and after work Christmas parties we will no doubt be thumbing our fingers over wondering to ourselves what the heck we are going to wear without looking like a tragic, Christmas ornament?
So, to kick off the festive holiday season today’s post will be dedicated to helping you figure out what look, style and fit you are interested in experimenting with this Christmas. But first, if you haven’t done so already I highly suggest checking out my article series on the varying style personalities that may resonate with you and which you most identify with.
When you are done reading them return to this week’s post, as it will help you get crystal clear on what you may want to avoid incorporating into your fabulous Christmas party outfit ideas and what you will want to illuminate and experiment with when getting ready to make a fabulous entrance at the many holiday soirees you’ll be attending this year.
Holiday Black Tie Event
A personal favorite of mines! All that’s missing is the paparazzi taking your photos as you enter the room ready to accept your award for best dressed. For these types of Christmas soirees, you’ll want to dress accordingly and ensure that you are not committing a forbidden fashion faux pas, such as wearing skinny jeans and a blazer; which is perfectly fine for a casual, after hours, holiday get together with your friends, but if the invite says black-tie, you’ll need a dash of old Hollywood glamour, a pinch of glitter and a sprinkle of ruby red.
Night on The Town
Whether you are out with the girls or your holiday sweetie a fun splash of sequins will always make any outfit fabulous, especially during the holiday season. As you sparkle and dazzle dancing the night away, sipping on a festive cocktail celebrating the holiday season do ensure that your sparkly sequins doesn’t over power you. Keep your accessories simple and your makeup fresh with subtle pops of color; but not too much, you don’t want to look like a disco ball.
Intimate Holiday Party
Holiday parties are not usually as formal as a black-tie event, depends on the host and what they prefer as the dress code. However, if the dress code isn’t identified on the invite I would air on the side of precaution and ask for clarification. If they say wear something nice then you know there isn’t a strict dress code in effect, but I would still match your outfit to the occasion. Since it’s the holiday season I would still keep it semi-formal, but not over the top that your upstaging the host of the party. When in doubt, a simple cocktail dress – doesn’t have to be black – and a lovely jeweled tone accessory will always blend in beautifully
After Work Holiday Party
Work Christmas parties are a bit tricky because although the party is after work hours you are still mingling and networking with your peers, supervisor and possibly clients. So, I would still opt for a professional look, but jazz it up a bit with a beautiful top and accessories. If you work in an ultra-conservative environment stay with neutral colors with subtle pops of colour that are still dressy and appropriate for an after-hours social gathering, but not to informal that you raise eye brows. On the other hand, if you decide to wear a dress I would suggest one that is appropriate in length, suitable fit, but keep the sequins at home; you can add some festive drama to it with glitzy pair of earrings and a pop of colour on your lips.
Weekend Social with Friends
Let’s face it we all need some much-needed down time amidst the holiday hustle and grind and what better way to unwind then over a glass of wine with your bestie. Just because you’re busy shopping and prepping your home for the Christmas season doesn’t mean you can’t do it in style while enjoying a quick social with your friends and family to renew your energy. Too often we may opt for frumpy comfort over style when going through our to-do holiday checklist, but why can’t we do both! A pair of sparkly flats, dash of color and a crisp white top matched with a great pair of jeans and a pop of color on the lips is perfect for a quick social with friends and family during the holiday season.
Romantic Dinner for Two
This one is for the single ladies. Have you been asked out on a date just in time to celebrate the holidays with company? If so, you’ll want to impress your sweetie with an enchanting outfit that evokes just enough sensuality to keep him focused on you among a crowded room, balanced with regal sophistication to let him know you are a lady to be admired and respected. A sexy cocktail dress, matched with a trendy stole and elegant pumps is perfect look for this style personality.
